Google is progressing on a new “Battery health” feature for Pixel phones in the latest Android 16 Beta 2 release. The feature can be found in Settings > Battery > Battery health. Users can view their battery health status and get tips for extending battery life.

These tips include enabling Adaptive Charging, avoiding extreme temperatures, turning off unnecessary features, and updating the latest software. There is also a shortcut for Charging Optimization. The Battery health page will show Battery capacity, which measures the “estimated percentage of charge the battery can currently hold compared to a new standard battery.” This capacity may change after a recalibration process.

Battery health insights for Pixel users

Google plans to offer a recalibration feature to “improve battery measurements.” This process could take a few weeks to complete. During recalibration, users will see notifications like “Your battery is recalibrating.

This process may take a few weeks. When it’s finished, the battery capacity will be updated,” and “Recalibration in progress.”

Users might notice shorter battery life between charges if “Battery capacity is reduced” after recalibration. While it’s not sure if Google will launch this feature with the final Android 16 release, its inclusion in the beta shows they are making good progress on it.

The Battery health feature could be handy for Pixel owners to monitor their battery condition and optimize settings for longer battery life. It’s a welcome addition that many users have been hoping to see.
