Instagram is enhancing its creation and editing capabilities with the introduction of a new app called Edits. This dedicated platform aims to bring innovative features to the Instagram ecosystem. Last week, Instagram previewed some of the new functionalities it intends to add to the app, including AI-generated background editing and the ability to animate still images.
In his regular Q&A session on IG Stories, head of Instagram Adam Mosseri discussed the ambitions for the new app. We want to make sure that there are the best possible creative tools for making not only Reels but photos both in the Instagram app and then for video in the Edits app. They’re built on the same codebase, and you’re going to see new features be tried first in the Edits app over time, and the ones that work, we’ll integrate into the main app.
Some of the upcoming features in the Edits app include the ability to capture video up to 10 minutes and store drafts, edit via a playback timeline for more granular control, and access to additional inspiration through trending audio insights and real-time popular content overviews.
Innovative features in Edits app
Users will also benefit from the ability to record content in higher quality and access video analytics. These tools could make Edits an essential platform for creating standout, engaging content on Instagram.
As Meta continues to evolve its AI models, the generative AI tools in Edits will become increasingly advanced. The Edits app could gain significant traction, especially if competitors like CapCut are affected by regulatory changes. Users can sign up to pre-order Edits, which is set for release in March.
Instagram enthusiasts can look forward to more creative control and innovative features with the launch of Edits, potentially transforming the way content is created on the platform.
