Sure, watching a music video on YouTube is great, and MP3s are really convenient, but there’s still no substitute for a live performance. That was the theme of Marcus Thomas’s campaign to promote WSKU’s 44th Keny State Folk Festival and remind fans that what really matters during the folk fest is the music. It was a rally to unplug, get out and tune in to some of folk music’s best performers. The campaign of posters, ambient postings, and other forms of media let the audience know it’s easier to enjoy a live performance when you’re in the moment and be “here to hear it.” Judging by attendance, it seemed like the performers appreciated the message too.
