Netflix CMO Leslie Kilgore has left her long-term role to be a non-executive director on the company’s board, the company said. The movie rental and streaming service is opening an external hunt for a new CMO “in the coming months,” but Steve Swasey, the company’s VP of corporate communications, would not be more specific with the search timeline.
Netflix has temporarily appointed Jessie Becker, an 11-year Netflix veteran, as interim CMO. Becker was most recently the company’s VP of marketing. Becker will report to Reed Hastings, Netflix’s co-founder and CEO.
Swasey declined to comment on what prompted the decision for Kilgore to shift out of the CMO role, in which she has spent the last 12 years. He also declined to comment on whether the decision was related to consumer backlash following Netflix’s decision to raise subscription prices last summer.
