The National Security Agency (NSA) has launched a new podcast called “No Such Podcast.” The podcast aims to give listeners a behind-the-scenes look at the agency’s secret operations and cybersecurity efforts. The NSA has been known for its secrecy since it was founded after World War II. In recent years, the agency has taken steps to be more transparent with the public.

This includes having a presence on social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. The podcast was created to showcase the complex work of the NSA’s cryptologists and cryptanalysts. Sara Siegle, the NSA’s head of strategic communications, said the podcast will highlight the incredible work of the agency’s diverse and expert workforce.

While transparency is a key goal, the podcast is also a way to recruit STEM graduates who might otherwise choose to work for tech giants like Google or startups. An NSA spokesperson said recruitment is not the main goal of the podcast, but they hope it will make listeners consider a career with the agency. The first two episodes of the seven-part season were released last week.

Podcast reveals NSA’s complex operations

They cover significant topics like the NSA’s role in finding Osama Bin Laden and the importance of cybersecurity. Key figures like Natalie Laing, the NSA’s director of operations, and Jon Darby, former director of operations, share detailed discussions.

The podcast addresses public concerns about the agency’s surveillance practices. Laing emphasizes that the NSA only collects security-relevant information. However, the podcast does not mention Edward Snowden, who revealed the agency’s surveillance programs in 2013.

Future episodes will explore topics like encryption and the history of cryptography. They will touch on the NSA’s evolution on these issues, going back to the 1990s Crypto Wars and the complexities of modern-day encryption battles. “No Such Podcast” gives insight into the NSA’s mindset and operations but doesn’t provide full transparency.

The podcast is a modern way for the NSA to address its public image, recruit talent, and explain its crucial role in national security.
