Renowned founder and CEO of Robert Marston and Associates and Marston Strategic Communications, Robert Marston, passed away on July 14 due to respiratory failure. At 86, Marston leaves behind a legacy defined by honesty, integrity, and competitive spirit.

In May 1970, Marston founded Robert Marston and Associates, responsible for the innovative “pincer effect.” This strategic method ingeniously combined market-specific PR infiltration and a comprehensive national media plan.

Throughout his distinguished career, Marston had an impressive portfolio of prestigious clients ranging from corporate greats like Procter & Gamble, Citigroup, and PepsiCo to nonprofit organizations such as the New York City Ballet and the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell.

His professional journey began in 1959 at Rowland Company with later years seeing him as head of the New York City branch at Rogers & Cowan.

Legacy of PR strategist Robert Marston

On leaving Rogers & Cowan, Marston employed his extensive knowledge and connections to launch his own successful venture, setting another significant milestone in his illustrious career.

Marston was instrumental in nurturing numerous successful PR careers. Philip Morabito, CEO of Pierpont Communications, and Betty Hughes, founder of Hughes Marketing & Media, credit their success to his mentorship and guidance.

Beyond his contributions to the field, Marston and his wife co-founded the Robert and Maryann Marston Charitable Trust. The trust is committed to various philanthropic activities and aims to foster growth in education, science, arts, healthcare, children’s welfare, and animal rights.

Even after his demise, Marston’s enduring legacy and charismatic personality continue to resonate within public relations. His wife and their two sons, Robert and Bradford, uphold his memory and continue his incredible work.
