SouthPointe Commons, a 48-acre project based in Fern Creek, features 363,000 square feet of commercial space designed to stimulate local commerce. With ample parking facilities, this project promises easy access for visitors.
This meticulously planned project, funded by an initial $80 million investment, is located near Bardstown Road and the Gene Snyder Freeway. Boasting a massive Hy-Vee grocery store, multiple dining and lifestyle outlets, ample green spaces, and effective traffic management mechanisms, the complex promises to be a dynamic, family-friendly environment.
SouthPointe Commons dates back to 2010, and despite several legal hurdles, it remains committed to being a hub for retail activity and community engagement. The project’s vision is influenced by the successful Old Brownsboro Crossing retail center in Eastern Jefferson County.
Emerging as Fern Creek’s Community Hub: SouthPointe Commons
This vision guides the developers as they work diligently towards their goal.
While expectations indicate that SouthPointe Commons will become a booming center for retail, restaurants, and more, some locals have criticized the slow pace of development. One resident, Jason Sanders, described the process as “watching paint dry.” Despite these criticisms, project managers assert their commitment to delivery and emphasize that quality requires time, man-power, and careful planning.
At present, only a Panera Bread outlet operates within the complex, but constructions for future establishments, including a Bank of America branch, are underway. The addition of this branch is expected to substantially diversify SouthPointe Commons’ retail offerings, attracting more customers and enhancing its overall appeal.
Additionally, a new Bubba’s 33 restaurant is set to start construction soon in response to the community’s desire for more diverse eating establishments. If all goes according to plan, it should be open by the end of the year.
