The soaring temperatures of summer 2024 spiked a nationwide rise in demand for HVAC services, particularly air conditioner replacements. This uncommonly hot summer season stressed HVAC companies and brought forth the importance of energy-efficient cooling systems.

Renowned HVAC experts Steve Seneff and Mikhel Dickason underscore the increased demand through their recent installation of a new system in a Virginia residence. This increase can be attributed to new construction, renovations, and efforts to optimize energy efficiency, leading to a significant boom in the industry.

Gary Bedard, President of Home Comfort Solutions at Lennox International, anticipated a surge in HVAC solution needs as summers continually heat up. Noting the pattern of rising global temperatures, Lennox is ready to meet the growing demand for efficient cooling systems with its sustainability-centered and energy-efficient products.

A recent report states that the global air conditioning market grew an average of 7% per year over the last decade.

Surge in HVAC services during summer 2024

Despite a large portion of this increase originating from outside the U.S., the domestic demand for HVAC services continues to climb, fueled by the global rise in temperatures, urbanization, enhancements in living standards, and an emphasis on sustainability and reducing carbon footprints.

Perry Hugee, an HVAC business owner based in Washington, D.C., exemplifies the challenges faced by many due to the increasing need for air conditioning services. The urgency of job orders presents a significant challenge, particularly for essential community buildings such as hospitals, schools, and churches. Retirees with vast experience in the sector are even returning to the workforce in response to these demands.

Despite the escalating workload of HVAC personnel and the rising number of urgent service orders, the industry remains resilient. Professionals are increasingly depending on technology to streamline operations. Implementations of innovative tools, effective training, and skill development all contribute to maintaining high service standards in an industry tested by the strains of extreme weather.
