Vienna Airport sets new passenger record

Vienna Airport marked a historic milestone in 2024, achieving record-breaking passenger volumes. With 31.72 million passengers served, the airport surpassed pre-crisis levels from 2019 by approximately 50,000 travelers (+0.2%). The Flughafen Wien Group, which includes Vienna Airport and its international investments in Malta and Kosice airports, handled 41.4 million passengers, reflecting a 9.1% year-on-year increase.

The airport anticipates further growth in 2025, projecting approximately 32 million passengers at Vienna Airport and 42 million passengers for the Flughafen Wien Group. Financially, revenue is expected to rise to €1.08 billion, with an EBITDA of €440 million and a net profit of around €230 million. The company plans to invest €300 million in expansion and modernization projects, funded entirely through its own resources.

Antalya, Barcelona, and Mallorca were among the most popular summer vacation destinations, while Bangkok, New York, and Taipei led long-haul routes. Germany, Spain, and Italy emerged as the top country destinations, with strong growth in passenger traffic to Italy, Spain, and Great Britain. The airport’s Southern Terminal Expansion project is progressing on schedule.

Vienna’s new passenger milestone

By 2027, the new terminal will enhance the passenger experience with an additional 70,000 m² of waiting areas, modernized security checkpoints, and expanded shopping and dining options. Tenant acquisition for the new terminal is already underway.

Vienna Airport looks forward to new flight connections in 2025, including a direct service to Singapore with Scoot starting in June. Austrian Airlines and other carriers have also announced additional routes for the summer, fueling optimism for growth, particularly in the Asian market. Flughafen Wien AG achieved an all-time high share price of €55.20 in 2024, with a market capitalization of approximately €4.5 billion.

The company emphasizes the need for aviation-friendly policies to sustain growth and streamline bureaucratic processes. Malta Airport recorded 8.96 million passengers in 2024 (+14.8 % year-on-year), while Kosice Airport handled 735,384 passengers (+18.2 %). Both airports significantly exceeded their pre-crisis levels.

December capped the record-breaking year with 3.01 million passengers across the Flughafen Wien Group (+9.5%), including 2.4 million passengers at Vienna Airport (+8.8%). Vienna Airport’s performance in 2024 cements its position as a key player in European aviation, and the outlook for continued growth in the years ahead is promising.
