Retailers are gearing up for a busy holiday shopping season with major sales events in October. Amazon, Walmart, and Target have all announced significant discounts across a wide range of categories. Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days will run from Oct.

8-9, offering Prime members early access to holiday savings. Walmart’s Holiday Deals event will take place from Oct. 8-13, with Walmart+ members getting a 12-hour head start on deals.

Target Circle Week will run from Oct. 6-12, providing discounts across every department to Target Circle members. These events mark a shift in the traditional holiday shopping season.

With Thanksgiving falling later this year, retailers are extending the shopping period to capture consumer spending before December.

Black Friday, which usually kicks off the holiday shopping season, is being pushed back to November 29.

Retailers are also responding to changes in consumer behavior. After years of high inflation, shoppers are becoming more selective about deals and looking for significant discounts. Retailers must use loud, attention-grabbing promotions to drive early holiday sales.

The overlap of these sales events highlights the competitive nature of the holiday season. Best Buy and Amazon will hold 48-hour blitzes starting October 8, coinciding with Prime Big Deals Days. The competitive pressure among retailers might encourage any holdouts to join in.

This year’s holiday shopping season promises to be longer and more intense than ever. Retailers aim to capture consumer dollars well ahead of the traditional Black Friday rush. With compelling discounts and an extended shopping period, retailers hope to attract buyers and boost sales in what is shaping up to be a “Green October.”
