Amazon has appointed Julia White as its new Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President for Amazon Web Services (AWS). White joins AWS from SAP, previously serving as Chief Marketing & Solutions Officer. In a statement on LinkedIn, White expressed her enthusiasm for the new role.

“Today, I started my next chapter with my first Day One of many to come. I’m thrilled to share that I have joined Amazon Web Services (AWS) as the Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer. It’s an honor to join this remarkable team and business.

I can’t wait to attend re: Invent in a few short days, where I will meet and learn from our customers, partners, and many of the AWS team. I look forward to seeing many of you there!”

White brings nearly two decades of experience from her tenure at Microsoft, where she last served as Corporate Vice President responsible for product marketing for Microsoft Azure, Developer Tools, and Platforms. Her extensive expertise in cloud and AI messaging will be significant to AWS.

Julia White joins AWS leadership

AWS CEO Matt Garman highlighted White’s “extensive experience with cloud, AI, and product messaging and positioning” in a memo to AWS employees. Garman also noted that White would join his leadership team, succeeding Raejeanne Skillern, who had been CMO since July 2023.

AWS has achieved significant financial milestones, surpassing $10 billion in quarterly profits with revenue exceeding $27.4 billion. Despite this, competition with Microsoft Azure and other cloud services remains intense, especially given Microsoft’s integrated offerings like Microsoft Power Platform and Microsoft Power BI. White will likely draw on her extensive experience at Microsoft to navigate this competitive landscape.

Her role will involve continuing and potentially deepening AWS’s relationships within the enterprise ecosystem, making AWS an even more compelling choice for hosting industry-specific workloads. In addition to her ERP-related responsibilities, White’s primary focus will be on broader AWS business priorities. Given AWS’s significant role in running a large portion of the Internet, White’s strategic decisions could have far-reaching implications beyond just enterprise software partnerships.

ERP insiders and AWS users will watch closely to see how White leverages her experience to foster stronger partnerships, drive growth, and maintain AWS’s competitive edge in the cloud services market.
